Although she gets regular mammograms, Reel says MBI gave her extra assurance.

Over the past 25 years, Hatakeyama has become known for his interest in the ways in which human industries exist in the natural environment. His large-scale color photographs focus on both man-made and natural environments, capturing industrial structures like lime quarries and mines from the point of their origin until the moment of their demise, swept up by the powerful impact of the natural world. In the various photo series presented at SFMOMA, Hatakeyama's focus moves from quarries in the Japanese countryside to urban sewers in Tokyo to the mined hills of France, conveying a persistent and unsentimental concern with landscapes in transition.

Hatakeyama was born in Iwate on the northeastern coast of Japan, a setting marked by abounding limestone quarries and cement factories that served as early inspiration for the photographer. And like the destruction imposed by man-made structures, Hatakeyama has captured the equalling forceful impact of natural disasters, most recently recording the aftermath of the 2011 Tohuku earthquake and tsunami that devastated his hometown. Titled "Rikusentakata," the series shows with refined observance the ways in which lands are subjected to the exacting power of forces beyond human control.

Hatakeyama's "Natural Stories" is imbued with a reverence for his home country's natural resources accompanied by a sense of marvel toward the structures built to extract them. By incorporating images of the Japanese landscape that reign symbolic and often mythological in traditional art -- the country's mineral-rich mountains, plains, and hills -- amongst images of industrial fetes of man, the photographs reveal the relationship between humanity and mother nature that hangs by a thread.

La Guelaguetza Festival in Poughkeepsie this Sunday

Sometimes experiencing another culture?s self-expression can inspire our own. Attending Poughkeepsie?s fourth annual La Guelaguetza Festival is a chance to do that. The traditional celebration of the same name has taken place in Oaxaca (pronounced wah-HAH-ka), Mexico for hundreds of years. In case you were wondering, La Guelaguetza means ?the offering,? as in a sharing or exchange. This is exactly how Felipe Santos, director of El Grupo Folklorico Poughkeepsie, sees this festive gathering: ?This is for people of all backgrounds and cultures to celebrate how our diversity makes us a stronger and richer community.?

I asked Polly Adema, folklorist with the Dutchess County Arts Council, about the day?s activities. She shared, ?Among the children?s activities will be face-painting, a bouncy house, balloons, a coloring station with Oaxacan images such as traditional costumes, food, guelaguetza, the park?s playground?and of course, the beautiful dances performed by youth and adult dancers. Many children delight in watching the procession of dancers as they enter the festival grounds, the colorful and lively dances and the playful rhythms of the music. La Guelaguetza is definitely a family event, and promises to be a wonderful afternoon.?

Hey, don't knock it 'till you try it! These babies don't move a centimeter all.day.long. And no, they?

do not pull your hair out when you take them off! What's even better, they don't take a lot of supplies, they are super quick to make (about 5-10 minutes), and are a great way to use up ribbon or scraps of fabric! Oh! And the possibilities are endless?here's just three different ideas I came up with!

Let me show you how I made each one!

Although slightly different, all three "styles" of headband follow the same construction, just with small variations. To make the "basic" ribbon top model, here is what you will need!

1. Center and pin Velcro to the ribbon. Select which piece of ribbon (if they are different) will be the underside to your headband (the part that touches your head!). Center the Velcro on the RIGHT side of the ribbon (if there is one), and pin it down the length of the ribbon with straight pins. You should have an extra 1/2" or so of ribbon on each end (beyond the Velcro).

2. Sew Velcro to the ribbon. Starting in one corner (it doesn't matter which one), sew around all four sides of the Velcro, attaching it securely to the ribbon. Try to sew as close to the edge of the Velcro as you can.

Once you've sewn on your Velcro, this is what you'll end up with. Note what I am calling the "right" side versus the "wrong" side.

3. Pin the Velcro ribbon to the other length of ribbon. With WRONG sides together, pin the ribbon you just sewed (with the Velcro) to the ribbon you want for the top of your headband (this is the part that will show when you're wearing it).

Just to keep all the sides clear, here is what I mean by WRONG sides. Because ribbon already has a finished edge, there is no flipping involved in this project. Therefor, when you pin the two ribbons together, you want your RIGHT sides to be facing outward.

5. Insert the elastic into ONE end of the ribbon. First, only attach the elastic to ONE end of the ribbon. Here is how to do it!

• a) Fold down the end of the Velcro ribbon toward the center, just to where the Velcro starts.
• b) Flip the whole thing over, and repeat using the outside ribbon. Essentially, fold the two ends toward each other.
• c) Insert one end of the elastic about a 1/2" or so and pin shut.

Again, only insert it into one side (for now!)

6. Sew the elastic end. Using a sewing machine, sew the elastic and the ends shut by simply going back and forth 3-4 times (to make it nice and strong).

7. Sew the sides of the ribbons shut. Once the end is shut (and the elastic is firmly sewn in), sew down each side of the headband, attaching the two pieces of ribbon to each other.?

But be sure to STOP at the end of each side - don't sew the other opening shut!

Here is how I recommend sewing your headband:

8. Insert the elastic to the other end of the headband. Repeating the process you did in step 5, insert the elastic into the other end of the headband. (Make sure your elastic ins't twisted!)

9. Stich the headband shut. Again going back-and-forth a few times, stitch the headband shut at the other elastic insertion.

And you're all done! Easy, huh?!?

After making two of these easy ribbon headbands, I really wanted to be able to do the same thing with fabric - just think of the different looks you could make with fabric as an option too! After a failed attempt at the sewing-and-flip-right-side-out approach, I went about it a different way!

To make the headband with a fabric top, you start the same way!

1. Center and pin Velcro to the ribbon.?

2. Sew Velcro to the ribbon.?

3. Prepare a fabric strip. Cut a 16"+ length of fabric (or use a scrap like I did!) about 3 inches wide. Fold it in half with RIGHT sides together and sew down the edge. I used my serger to finsih the edge in order to reduce the amount of bulk on the inside of the strip once it was flipped right-side-out.

4. Flip the strip right-side-out. Using a safety pin (or one of those fancy turning tools), flip your fabric strip right-side-out.

5. Press the fabric flat. With the seem running down the center of the fabric strip, press the fabric strip flat.

6. Pin the fabric strip to the ribbon with Velcro. Like before, with WRONG sides together, pin the fabric to the ribbon strip.

Finish the headband the same way as above.

7. Pin down the length of the ribbon.

8. Fold the ends of the ribbon inwards.

9. Insert the elastic into one end.

10. Sew the elastic in and the end shut.

11. The elastic and sides should be sewn shut.

12. Finish by inserting the elastic into the remaining end and sewing shut.

Love this one - just a little more glamorous!

Last but not least, I added a little "ruffle" to the top of my last headband.

Again, start the same way:

1. Center and pin Velcro to the ribbon.?

2. Ruffle the ribbon. Using pins, create 5-6 ruffles/pleats on one end of the ribbon strip.

Hey guys i'm new to the community, and new to roleplaying. I am an average writer who has always lived in his work, so I am hoping roleplaying comes naturally for me. I'm 23 yr old male from usa. I prefer fantasy type roleplays but am open to all really. I am hoping to find some people to roleplay with that will teach me and kinda ease me into it. You know not real strict cuz i'm sure ima make a few mistakes until i get the hang of it. I've always liked the idea of roleplaying, its fascinating, but i'm unsure if i can do it well.

Anyways you have my word that I wil write to the best of my abilities in any roleplay. So if you want to introduce me to a roleplay, or "mentor" me i would more then appreciate it. Her connections to those wounded in the attack early Friday at an Aurora movie theater was closer than most.

Paralyzed in the 1999 Columbine massacre, the 30-year-old Hochhalter said she can offer a little hope to the victims' loved ones and the survivors. "I would tell them that with time, it does get better. But it never goes away," she said.

Columbine students who survived what in 1999 was the worst school massacre in U.S. history are reliving their own experiences. And they're banding together to try to help. On Facebook and by phone, they are reaching out to people who witnessed the attack.

Young people were victims and witnesses in both the theater shootings and the ones at Columbine. The Columbine survivors want those at the movie theater to know that the road ahead of them won't be easy.

"Similar to the graduating senior class from Columbine, they may soon find themselves surrounded by people who have no clue that they were involved in a traumatic event," Columbine survivor Ben Lausten wrote on a Facebook page for survivors of school shootings.

"Breaking down and crying for no apparent reason (which is perfectly normal!) is harder to do in an office, or a business, or in 'normal' society," he said. "These victims have a challenging path ahead of them."

Another piece of advice: Don't waste time trying to figure out what motivated the shooter or shooters.

"It's a waste of time, and it gives them exactly what they want," said Hochhalter, who was eating lunch as a 17-year-old junior when she was shot on April 20, 1999. Even as the years pass, she said, she's no closer to understanding why Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot and killed 11 classmates, a teacher, and then themselves.

"I don't think I'll ever understand," Hochhalter said.

But the Columbine survivors understand this: The Aurora survivors will need to talk. And they promise to listen.

"We know what they are going through, and we can help," wrote Michelle Romero Wheeler, a Columbine survivor who posted links to sites supporting people at the theater shooting.

Sunday's Vigil

Among the thousands at Sunday's vigil was Darius Harvey, 18, of Aurora, who was in the theater during the shooting and lost a friend in the massacre.

"I was there and I'm part of this community. I felt I should be here," Harvey said. "It's good for healing the community and I felt that it is very necessary for our state and community to know that our nation cares about us." He then joined the crowd in singing "Amazing Grace."
