However, the greatest headache for a majority has usually been how to get cost-effective insurance coverage quotations. WASHINGTON (AP) ? It's a good thing President Barack Obama considers himself a congenital optimist.
There are no easy "gets" as he scrolls through his second-term to-do list and looks ahead to the uncertainties of the next four years. Many of the items already on his agenda aren't there of his own choosing.
First up is certain battle with Congress in the next few months over deadlines on automatic budget cuts, expiring government spending authority and raising the debt limit. House Republicans last week agreed to bump up the debt limit slightly, but that just puts off that part of the fight for a few months.
Obama's goal is to get through that trifecta and still have the political capital left for the things he'd rather focus on: reducing gun violence, overhauling immigration policy, revamping tax laws, addressing climate change and more.
With Republicans in Congress approaching the new year with very different goals, "it's a formula for deadlock and difficulty for the president," says James Thurber, director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University. "I don't think this president has even a month of political capital."
The president also will have to devote significant energy simply to safeguarding the achievements of his first term, by keeping the economic recovery alive, making sure his health care law is properly put in place in the face of persisting objections from businesses and individuals, and ensuring new financial regulations have teeth.
International worries, including the civil war in Syria, Iran's nuclear intentions and instability in Mali could complicate the president's Term Two game plan as well.
"Things are stacked up," Obama senior adviser David Plouffe acknowledged Sunday on ABC's "This Week."
Plouffe argued that the president's big agenda gives him "the sort of focus and energy you need. And I think his intention is to run through the tape all the way."
Obama can take heart from any number of things he's got going for him. He has a can-do attitude, growing public support for action on some of his chosen issues and better approval ratings.
Democrats gained seats in both houses of Congress in the November election and Republican poll numbers are weak. With the war in Iraq over and U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan winding down, he has more time to focus on domestic priorities. He also doesn't have to worry as much about ruffling feathers because he doesn't have to run for re-election again.
"People shouldn't underestimate how much we can get done," the president said in a pre-election interview for Rolling Stone.
Obama also understands the underwhelming track record of second-term presidents and the dangers of over-reaching. "We are very cautious about that," he said.
The president hopes to strike a hopeful theme in his second inaugural address on Monday. But he knows that partisanship only worsened during his first term.
"The optimism of his 2008 campaign about bridging divides has not been realized at the end of the first term, and there's very little prospect that it's going to be coming into a second term, so the language has to be careful," says Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center.
Immigration offers Obama perhaps his best chance at a significant second-term achievement. The 2012 elections, in which Obama drew lopsided support from Hispanics, gave Republicans a wake-up call on their need to pay more attention to Latinos, so the GOP is more inclined to work with the president there than on other issues.
The problem is incredibly complex, though, and past efforts at comprehensive change have failed. The question of how to deal with the estimated 11 million people already illegally in the U.S. is the big sticking point.
On gun control, an issue where Obama moved quickly after the Connecticut elementary school shooting, the president faces longer odds in Congress.
The president knows that.
He promised to "put everything I've got" into the effort. But he also put people on notice that the effort will only succeed "if the American people demand it." That reflects his growing recognition that the only way to make an end-run around Washington gridlock is by leveraging public will.
The polling on guns, then, may offer clues to what elements of the president's package have the best chances of enactment.
More than 80 percent of adults back setting a federal standard for background checks on people buying guns at gun shows. By comparison, 55 percent favor a nationwide ban on military-style, rapid-fire guns. That prohibition appears to have few chances of passing Congress.
Obama is sure to tangle with Congress again over spending and taxes as legislators grapple with the next three installments in the continuing "fiscal cliff" drama.
And that will roll right into the broader struggle over tax changes and setting the country on a more sustainable fiscal path, where Obama will have to seek consensus with a Republican-dominated House in which conservatives hold sway and moderates are no longer an endangered species but truly gone, Thurber says.
The president hopes for a "grand bargain" that reduces the deficit over the long term, but the trick is to achieve that goal while safeguarding Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security for future generations. A package that does both would go a long way toward expanding the legacy Obama began to build in his first term with action on health care and rescuing the economy.
The president enters his second with a new team taking shape and new strategies to deploy, but also more aware of the challenges inherent in the current atmosphere of polarization.
He describes himself as "happy warrior" ready to do battle anew.
But Calvin Jillson, a political scientist at Southern Methodist University, says Obama is still "as much an academic as a politician."
"What I don't think he's done is learn how to wield the power of the presidency in ways that former presidents have," says Jillson. "It's possible that Washington is just too different, and that what was possible for FDR or Lyndon Johnson is simply not possible today, even in light of large Democratic majorities in 2009-2010. Maybe Washington is just a different place."

Home ? Eco House ? Sun River Ranch as My Big Family Extravagant Holiday ? Currently Reading
My uncle has a friend that wants to lend his Sun River ranch to our family holiday. This year, my big family planned to have vacation together. Then, we chose the theme for this holiday, back to nature. We wanted to have experience of difference ambiance. It was because all of us living in the city, so we wanted to get away from the urban life. The good news has come from my uncle. He could lend that ranch as our holiday destination.
Back when I practiced law (no longer, thank you very much!) I would negotiate on a daily basis. And while I was pretty good at it, some of the jerks, err, I mean opposing counsel, I dealt with were masters. And, like attorneys, small business people negotiate all the time. Whether it?s trying to get a vendor to lower his prices or working out a deal with a client, negotiating is part and parcel of a small business life. So, yes, I do have a few thoughts on successful negotiations and negotiators.
Here are a few of my favorite tips:
Start slow, if possible: It sometimes takes a while to get a feel for the person you will be negotiating with, and if time permits, it is generally a good idea to get your feet wet before jumping in. Try and get a sense of their style, whether they seem like a bluffer or not, and how tough they are. Not everyone likes to negotiate or is good at it. Don?t assume your ?adversary? is either a good or bad negotiator; instead try and learn the facts first.
Come in over-prepared: The more you know about the other side and the facts, the better equipped you are to get what you want. For instance, say that you are negotiating a lease in a new building. If you don?t know what the vacancy rate is, if you don?t know what comparable rents in the area go for, if you do not know how long the space has been vacant, it will be hard to get a good deal.
He who offers first, loses: A well known strategy yes, but still important to remember. Typically, when you make the first offer, you are setting an upper limit on what you can get. For instance, if you want a raise and tell your boss that you want $5,000 more a year, you will never find out that her budget would have allowed you to get $7,500 more. So try and not make the first offer.
Have some good tactics ready: There are all sorts of negotiating techniques that you can use to your advantage:
Silence: This is one of my favorites. When offered a number you do not like, instead of responding, instead say nothing . . . continue to say nothing . . . if the other side talks first, it will likely be to raise the offer and break the uncomfortable silence.
Flinch: An ?involuntary? flinch is likewise used to make the offeror uncomfortable with the offer. Any sort of similar ?shocked? response may work in the right circumstances.
Good cop / bad cop: This age-old strategy does work. The good cop earns the other side?s trust by being reasonable talking about what a jerk the bad cop is. He can then make offers or offer rejections that the bad cop cannot.
Remember it is a negotiation: Their job is to get what they want. They may ask for the sun and be willing to settle for the moon. Do not take it personally. By the same token, build some room into your offer so that they feel like they are getting something too.
Be willing to walk: The willingness to walk away from the deal or table is the key to a strong negotiating position. This is the real leverage in any negotiation.
Lance Armstrong (George Burns/Oprah Winfrey Network) The second part of Lance Armstrong's confessional with Oprah Winfrey wasn't just filler. Although Armstrong aired the bulk of his dirty laundry in the first segment of the "Oprah's Next Chapter" interview last night, confessing to extensive long-term doping and to lying about it under oath, a few revelations remained.
The first surprise was Armstrong's description of his "most humbling moment" ? which wasn't informing his family that he'd cheated, lied, and would now have to come clean. On the contrary, it was stepping down from the board of Livestrong, the non-profit for cancer patients and survivors that's inextricably entwined with Armstrong (and that has sold more than 80 million of its yellow bracelets). "That was the lowest" point, Armstrong said. [Related: 7 Noteworthy Quotes From Oprah's Lance Armstrong Interview]
Winfrey then read him an email from a friend of hers whose young son had received a cancer diagnosis (Armstrong visibly cringed); asked if Armstrong is facing his demons ("Absolutely," he insisted); and wondered if he thought the banned substances he'd used to excel in cycling had, in fact, contributed to the diagnosis of Stage III testicular cancer he'd received (he said no doctor has suggested that to him). He addressed the millions of people who had looked to him as a source of support in their cancer fights: "I understand your anger, your sense of betrayal ... you supported me forever, through all of this, and you believed, and I lied to you ? and I'm sorry."
Lance Armstrong (Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
While he didn't point to getting straight with his family as the hardest part of the process of coming clean, it was clear from the broadcast that Armstrong was the most shaken by having to speak frankly with his 13-year-old son and 11-year-old twin daughters. Unable to speak at times and closely inspecting his cuticles for answers, Armstrong managed to choke out that, when he saw his son Luke defending him against the charges of doping and lying online, he knew he had to tell not just his son the truth, but (via Winfrey) the world. "I had to say something; this is out of control," Armstrong said, fighting tears, and added, "I said, 'Don't defend me anymore, just ... don't.'" He hoped the Winfrey interview would contribute to the "well-being" of his kids ? that they could see him taking responsibility and accepting the truth.
But the "ruthless" competitor in Armstrong isn't gone. He's also hoping ? though he doesn't "expect it to happen" ? that one day he can compete again. "That isn't the reason" he did the interview with Winfrey, he made sure to say, but "if there was ever a window," he'd be back on a bike in a snap. (Armstrong isn't allowed to compete in any sanctioned athletic events, including official marathons or 10Ks.)

Other insights from Armstrong:
- The November tweet he snottily sent out of himself surrounded by his seven Tour de France jerseys was "just more defiance." - He's in therapy now; he's done it before, off and on, but "I'm the type of person that needs to not do [therapy] sporadically." - He admitted that he's genuinely sorry ? but also sorry he got caught: "Everybody that gets caught is bummed out they got caught." - The day his sponsors all began calling to void his contracts was a "$75-million day." He considers "all future income" lost.

With #CSM2013 only days away, #physicaltherapist twitter chat relating to the conference will continue to increase. Quotes, links, pictures, and thoughts relating to #CMS2013 will spawn far ranging discussion. Individuals will participate remotely from all over the world. I anticipate the traffic on the #CSM2013 stream to be massive given the increase in physical therapists, students, and other disciplines engaging twitter professionally.
In?#PhysicalTherapy Hashtag Project, I discussed hashtags in physical therapy specifically and healthcare in general. I also outlined some?proposed hashtags for ?the PT tweetsphere. These were meant to categorize links, discussion, and comments regarding specific practice areas and topics including sports, pain, acute care, business, advocacy, and research science. A nice discussion evolved both in the comments section, and on twitter inspiring me to create a follow up post based on the conversation.
The Healthcare Hashtag Project?on Symplur continues to?curate?information relevant to various aspects of healthcare and various professionals within healthcare. Of course, much of the information is also important for public health and patients. Interestingly, the #DPTstudent and #solvePT tweetchats rank 5th and 7th respectively in trending tweetchats. #Rehab generally is 15th on the list of trending hashtags. Impressive! The four main categories of organization are hashtags, tweet chats, conferences, and diseases. I envision this project growing in both scope and specificity to connect various professions (and patients!) while simultaneously allowing for more focused categorization within professions. As introduced in the Physical Therapy Hashtag post, specificity of hashtags for the physical therapist profession adds value to the twitter community. A great feature is a schedule of healthcare related tweet chats.
A while back, PT Think Tank?s Eric Robertson introduced the idea of a new PT hashtag #LivePT to capture statements and sentiments that were more appropriately branded outside the #solvePT tag and chat. Below is the revised list of hash tags. Please review and comment?.

I?m a step-parent, I don?t identify with that title unless I?m legally bound to or someone asks specifically; and no, I don?t have any biological children of my own. My situation is rare, or so I?ve been told. My husband (the biological father of my children) and I have been married since November 2011, we have had our oldest (now 18) since December 2010 and the soon to be 10 year old since August 2011. Yes, the mother of my children is alive and well, not incarcerated, the children were not removed from her custody, and she has no substance abuse issues.
When the call came in October 2011, to my then fianc?, that his 16 year old son needed him (like all boys do) and that their biological mother was willing to give him custody of him, there was no question in my mind that?s what he needed to do. He so gingerly asked me, literally skating around the question to the point that I had to say it and my response was a resounding yes. And when the question came again in August 2011 for the then 8 year old, my response was the same. (I won?t bore you with the other details) I?ve often been asked a series of questions by both women and men that have biological children, are in a step-parenting situation, or simply just want to know. The questions range from: why would I take on this responsibility, why would I raise someone else?s kids for them, how can I love and do for them the way that I do. Well, it?s simple (and besides, my momma told me I was more than capable of doing it):
1. Those kids were here before me. 2. They didn?t ask to be here. 3. I would never be the reason why a man wouldn?t be taking care of his kids; there are more than enough excuses that one could come up with, but I wouldn?t be it. 4. If he wouldn?t take care of them, then he would never take care of me. *drops mic*
Though I don?t have any biological children of my own (yes women like me, in our mid to late 30?s, do still exist), I don?t take for granted that I didn?t give birth to my sons. Like one friend told me, I got kids the easy way: no stretch marks or sleepless nights. And if at any time one of them says ?you?re not my mom?, that would be a very true statement. But the fact of the matter is, you can?t tell they?re not mine. So, enough about my story, how do you get to that: 1. Don?t try to buy their love for their respect: at the end of the day they will only love what you buy for them and won?t respect you for it. 2. Say what you mean and mean what you say: rewards don?t come without consequences.
3. Make sure your yes is yes, your no is no, and don?t make promises just because it?s the easy way out.?
4. Rules without relationship breed rebellion and a relationship without rules breeds chaos.? 5. Make sure you and your spouse maintain a open line of communication as it relates to their child; because yes, at the end of the day, they are legally responsible. 6. Do not discuss adult issues in front of the children, especially if it relates to them or their other biological parent. 7. You are not the biological mother or father, so know your place and make sure to respect that biological parent. Maintain an open relationship with the other parent, whether the children live with you and your spouse or just visit. If the child/children live with you then be sure to involve the other parent in that child?s life.? 8. Don?t ever say a bad thing about that other parent to or in ear shot of that child; no matter what. Remember, that is still their mother or father that you are talking about. And the same should go for your spouse also. Issues will arise and bad feelings will emerge at some point. You betta go to God first. 9. Allow the child/children to call you what they are comfortable calling you. Do not force yourself on them, it should come naturally. 10. Where much is given, much is required. Pray for those children and their parents, because ultimately you are really praying for yourself.
Think about it like this, treat your step-children the way you would want a step-parent to treat your child. If you are the product of remarried parents, just remember how you were treated, good or bad ? glean from that experience. Your responsibility is to add to that child?s life as another parent, it?s addition not subtraction by eliminating the other parent and it?s definitely not division. It is my desire to be a blessing to my children, but really I am blessed because they are in my life. Andsoitis?
Both soups and drinks are available in the Hot Can

Last February, the world welcomed its first self-chilling beverage. Of course, a self-chilling beverage was only of so much interest during a time when much of the world's population could just step outside its door and chill its own beverages in the open air ? June might have been a better time for that one. What folks could use during the cold season is a beverage container that automatically warms its contents. That container is called the Hot Can.
The double-chambered aluminum Hot Can contains the beverage or soup in its outer chamber, and a mix of water and calcium oxide in its inner chamber. When activated, the water and calcium oxide mix, causing an exothermic reaction that heats the beverage by a total of 50 to 55 degrees Celsius in about three minutes. This means that a drink which starts out at room temperature (20?C/68?F) heats up to 70?C (158?F) ? from a cold cup of mud to a piping hot cup of coffee. A polypropylene outer shell insulates the beverage for about 45 minutes and protects the hands from burns.
Using the Hot Can sounds pretty easy. You turn it upside down, remove the protective tab and press the button to begin the heat reaction. Then you shake it for 20 to 30 seconds and stand it upright until it heats up. The heat indicator label lets you know it's hot and ready with a green emblem. If it should get too hot, a red warning sign activates instead.
Because the Hot Can adds a set amount of heat to any beverage, it's designed to be stored at room temperature. Storing it in the refrigerator will mean it won't heat up to a warm drinking temperature, while storing it in a hot environment like a car in the hot sun will cause burn risks. Storing it below 5?C (41?F) can damage the heating element.
The Hot Can could be super-useful for everyday use as well as for specific purposes. You could grab a coffee on the way out the door to work without ever having to brew a pot or stop off at a shop. Hikers, backpackers and other outdoor users could enjoy a hot drink without worrying about lighting a stove or fire.
Hot Can launched in its home market of Malaysia in 2008 and was introduced to the U.S. market last year. It comes in a full line of beverages and soups, including coffee, hot chocolate and chicken soup. The company has been busy attending trade shows and increasing its distribution footprint. Buyers can find it online at hot-canshop.com and at independent retailers, including outdoor shops and conveniences stores in 32 states. Each can costs about US$2.40 when purchased in multi-packs.
If you don't like Hot Cans' selection of drinks and soups, gadgets like the Trekmates cooking system uses a similar design for heating up your food of choice.

Jan. 17, 2013 ? Nearly 200,000 light-years from Earth, the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, floats in space, in a long and slow dance around our galaxy. Vast clouds of gas within it slowly collapse to form new stars. In turn, these light up the gas clouds in a riot of colours, visible in this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is ablaze with star-forming regions. From the Tarantula Nebula, the brightest stellar nursery in our cosmic neighbourhood, to LHA 120-N 11, part of which is featured in this Hubble image, the small and irregular galaxy is scattered with glowing nebulae, the most noticeable sign that new stars are being born.
The LMC is in an ideal position for astronomers to study the phenomena surrounding star formation. It lies in a fortuitous location in the sky, far enough from the plane of the Milky Way that it is neither outshone by too many nearby stars, nor obscured by the dust in the Milky Way's centre. It is also close enough to study in detail (less than a tenth of the distance of the Andromeda Galaxy, the closest spiral galaxy), and lies almost face-on to us [1], giving us a bird's eye view.
LHA 120-N 11 (known as N11 for short) is a particularly bright region of the LMC, consisting of several adjacent pockets of gas and star formation. NGC 1769 (in the centre of this image) and NGC 1763 (to the right, see heic1011) are among the brightest parts.
In the centre of this image, a dark finger of dust blots out much of the light. While nebulae are mostly made of hydrogen, the simplest and most plentiful element in the Universe, dust clouds are home to heavier and more complex elements, which go on to form rocky planets like Earth. Much finer than household dust (it is more like smoke), this interstellar dust consists of material expelled from previous generations of stars as they died.
The data in this image were identified by Josh Lake, an astronomy teacher at Pomfret School in Connecticut, USA, in the Hubble's Hidden Treasures image processing competition. The competition invited members of the public to dig out unreleased scientific data from Hubble's vast archive, and to process them into stunning images.
Josh Lake won first prize in the competition with an image contrasting the light from glowing hydrogen and nitrogen in N11. The image above combines the data he identified with additional exposures taken in blue, green and near infrared light.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Thursday it is trying to firm up plans for a new round of talks this month between global powers and Iran over Tehran's nuclear programme, which the West suspects is aimed at developing a nuclear weapons capability.
Iranian news agency ISNA said on Wednesday that Iran and six world powers would resume talks in late January, but a European Union official said the two sides had yet to agree a date. No venue has been agreed.
"Russia is concerned about this and we continue to work, including with our Iranian partners, to resolve this issue as soon as possible," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, according to state-run news agency Itar-Tass.
Ryabkov, Russia's negotiator at the talks, said that until there is a final agreement "there is no agreement".
The Russian Foreign Ministry said later that there was an understanding among the parties involved that the meeting should take place this month, and that the dates reported by ISNA - January 28-29 - were being discussed.
But it said the dates could change if there is no agreement on the venue, and added that Russia was open to any venue.
Senior U.N. nuclear inspectors were in Iran for a second day of talks on Thursday, seeking to unblock a long-stalled investigation into suspected atomic bomb research in the Islamic state.
ISNA confirmed discussions had resumed, but gave no further details. There was no immediate comment from the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear watchdog.
FINALLY READY?
World powers are watching the IAEA-Iran meeting for any signs as to whether Tehran, which faces intensifying sanctions pressure, may be prepared to finally start tackling international concerns about its nuclear activity.
Russia built Iran's first nuclear power plant and has warmer ties with Tehran than the United States and other Western nations do, giving it potential levers of pressure on Iran.
But Ryabkov said agreeing a date and venue for talks was ultimately up to the office of EU policy chief Catherine Ashton, who oversees contacts with Iran over its nuclear programme on behalf of the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany.
A spokesman for Ashton said in Brussels on Wednesday that no date had yet been set. "Contacts are still ongoing. We are waiting for the Iranians to respond," Michael Mann said when asked about the ISNA report.
Western and Russian diplomats had hoped for talks to restart in December or mid-January. Since the last meeting in June, Iran has pressed ahead with disputed nuclear activity and amassed more material that can have both civilian and military purposes.
Russia approved four rounds of U.N. Security Council sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme but opposes new curbs and has called separate Western sanctions counterproductive.
Russia has warned that an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities would be disastrous and, while Moscow says Tehran must dispel concerns about its nuclear programme, it has suggested Western fears about military aims are overblown.

Nice founding beat/bassline. The pads are too loud in the beginning, and dominate the listener's attention too much. I like the voice coming in 1:36ish. By 2:15 I feel a chord change or something would be nice. Nice semi-outro 2:50ish. I thought the breakdown was kinda long; I like it when a psytrance song jumps back into itself quickly. By 3:50 I'm definitely waiting to be impressed with the climax of the song. New voice 4:00ish, interesting, though it kinda feels like part of a different song to be introduced so late. 5:14 has a lot of nice energy, though maybe could have even more going on, as it is the fulcrum of the song's energy.
I liked the song overall, you have the basics for beat and bass down great; I did feel, however, that there should have been more tension and "nervous feeling" as that's what makes Psytrance fun.

Nice!
Good beat and bass line, no overusing of effects, manages to catch the attention for 7 mins =) I like how the new ideas are progressively introduced through the track and overlayed.

Education & Reference
Written in China more than 2,000 years ago, Sun Tzu's classic The Art of War is the first known study of the planning and conduct of military operations. These terse, aphoristic essays are unsurpassed in comprehensiveness and depth of understanding, examining not only battlefield maneuvers, but also relevant economic, political, and psychological factors. Indeed, the precepts outlined by Sun Tzu can be applied outside the realm of military theory. It is read avidly by Japanese businessmen and in fact was touted in the movie Wall Street as the corporate raider's bible. In addition to an excellent translation of Sun Tzu's text, Samuel Griffith also provides commentaries written by Chinese strategists, plus several thought-provoking essays on topics such as the influence of Sun Tzu on Mao Tse-tung and on Japanese military thought, the nature of warfare in Sun Tzu's time, and the life of Sun Tzu and other important commentators. Remarkable for its clear organization, lucid prose, and the acuity of its intellectual and moral insights, The Art of War is the definitive study of combat.

Both men?s and women?s players wore skates and donned their respective Big Green jerseys, but rather than a practice or a game, the two groups participated in what has become an annual community event.
With Dartmouth athletic trainer Nicole Humann?s help, Northeast Passage was once again able to bring sled hockey to the Upper Valley in an effort to spread the game. Designed for veterans and individuals with mobility impairments, the group organizes sled hockey events to introduce the sports to individuals who otherwise may not be aware of it.
Sled hockey is an ice sport that allows individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the popular winter sport.
?I love doing this. It?s a ?thank you? to our service members, who have sacrificed so much for us,? Humann said. ?It?s great to have the two Dartmouth hockey teams out here, because it shows them something new they probably wouldn?t otherwise see.?
?For the veterans, especially the younger ones, it?s great for them to see college players out here. They are coming back and, more likely than not, thinking about colleges and this is something that will help encourage them to pursue those intentions.?
Early on, Reagan Fischer, Ailish Forfar and Olivia Whitford from the women?s team as well as Cab Morris, Eric Neiley, Alex Goodship and Mike Keenan of the men?s squad were on hand to help set up before getting on the ice.
The trio of Neiley, Goodship and Keenan wasted little time in getting into sleds and trying out this new brand of hockey for themselves.
Head coaches Mark Hudak and Bob Gaudet were also in the building, lending their support, along with women?s associate head coach Holley Tyng and assistant Josh Liegl.
?Nicole has done a lot the past two years putting this together. Myself, being a veteran, coming here and seeing this it?s pretty special and also very humbling for those of us that have been doing this our whole life,? Hudak said.
?When we skate we take it for granted. To watch what they?re are able to do on the sled and to watch our kids get on and try it you realize what it was like when you first started playing hockey a long time ago. Hopefully we can build on this and maybe even bring it to Dartmouth.?
?I thought that was a great event,? Gaudet remarked, echoing the sentiments of Hudak. ?To see so many veterans and people who have been faced with life-changing circumstance after these injuries learning the game was remarkable.?
?There was a lot of energy, enthusiasm and laughter from the sled hockey players as well as our group of players representing the college so well. I think this is a great event and I felt that way last year and didn?t hesitate for a second when asked to participate again this year.?
Catherine Berghuis and Lindsey Allen soon joined the group on the ice as well as men?s players Tyler Sikura, Eric Robinson, Charlie Mosey, Andy Simpson, Rick Pinkston and Brad Schierhorn.
U.S. National Sled Hockey Team player Taylor Chace, a Hampton Falls, N.H., native, ran the event on the ice, organizing drills to teach players the necessary skills associated with this brand of hockey. An all-tournament selection at the 2012 Sled Hockey World Championship for his part in helping the US claim gold, Chace served as a perfect ambassador for the game he loves.
Northeast Passage?s motto is to ?Empower individuals with disabilities to ?Define. Pursue. Achieve.? their Therapeutic Recreation and Adaptive Sports goals.?
LONDON (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co has reached an out-of-court settlement over its lawsuit against the former boss of Bruno Iksil, the trader known as the "London Whale" for huge bets he took that cost the bank $6.2 billion, a person familiar with the matter said.
Javier Martin-Artajo, who was Iksil's immediate supervisor, had been named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed at London's High Court on October 22.
JPMorgan said last July it was seeking to claw back pay from those people it held responsible for the losses. Details of the action against Martin-Artajo were not released.
A source familiar with the lawsuit said on Wednesday the case against Martin-Artajo had now been settled.
Further details were not available. JPMorgan declined to comment. Martin-Artajo's lawyer, Greg Campbell of Mishcon de Reya, declined to comment.
Campbell said last year he was confident his client would be cleared of wrongdoing, noting he had never attempted to conceal the losses either directly or indirectly.
JPMorgan said in July all managers in the chief investment office (CIO) with responsibility for the losses had left the bank. Martin-Artajo and the former CIO head in Europe, Achilles Macris, were among those who left, along with Iksil himself.
JPMorgan on Wednesday released a detailed report on the loss from trading positions taken from London for the CIO. The trades, made with credit derivatives, became too big for the company to exit easily.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? In the heated talk about deep spending cuts that will dominate Congress in the coming weeks, one thing is likely to be in short supply: details.
The reason is simple. Americans embrace the general, abstract idea of reducing federal spending. Their support quickly fades, however, when specific programs are targeted.
That's why Republicans wrap their calls for deep spending cuts in broad generalities, even as they call on President Barack Obama to propose more detailed cuts of his own. "Where are the president's spending cuts?" House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said last month in the "fiscal cliff" debate, which did little to reduce federal outlays.
There's a problem with the GOP strategy. It's Republicans, not Obama, who advocate bigger spending cuts.
The White House seems in no hurry to help Republicans out of their awkward position. Obama notes that he already has offered more details for reduced spending than Republicans have, partly because he is obligated to propose a budget every year.
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking toward the March 1 start of major, across-the-board spending cuts that both parties call unwise. These are the postponed cuts ? or "sequester," in Congress-speak ? lingering from the partial resolution of the "fiscal cliff" on Jan. 1.
These cuts would hit military and domestic programs hard. But they would spare "entitlements," the popular but costly programs that include Medicare and Social Security. Leaders in both parties say lawmakers soon must confront entitlements if they are to stem the nation's long-term deficit-spending problem.
Republicans ? and to a lesser degree, Obama ? say it's time to start slowing the growth of these programs' benefits. But their proposals would delay the biggest impacts for years. Republicans have called for shifting major health care costs to states, where outcomes are hard to predict.
This makes it almost impossible for Americans to calculate exactly how and when the proposals would affect them. The more they learn, however, the more they might object.
"Talking about cutting entitlements in the abstract is popular," said Bob Bixby of the Concord Coalition, which advocates balanced budgets. But when it becomes clear that people's future Social Security and Medicare benefits might be trimmed, he said, "They say, 'Whoa, wait!'"
Congressional Republicans have endorsed sweeping changes in government health benefits for future beneficiaries. They would change Medicare into a voucher-like program that would limit government contributions to older people's health care. The benefits might not grow as quickly as medical inflation, forcing seniors to pay a larger share of the costs.
Medicaid, the federal health program for low-income and disabled people, would be turned over entirely to the states. The federal contribution would be indexed for rises in overall inflation and population, but is unlikely to keep up with the growth in medical costs.
Republicans say their support for these plans ? which died in the Democratic-controlled Senate ? prove they will stand up for bold cost-cutting changes.
But Republicans muddied their message, and infuriated opponents, when they attacked Democrats in the 2010 congressional elections for trimming Medicare spending as part of the "Obamacare" law. Last year's Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, further muddied the message by making similar Medicare accusations, and by advocating hikes, not cuts, in the military's budget.
At a news conference Monday, Obama needled Republicans for advocating huge cuts without detailing where the pain would fall.
"Congress has not been able to identify $1.2 trillion in cuts that they're happy with," the president said, "because these same Republicans say they don't want to cut defense. They've claimed that they don't want to gut Medicare or harm the vulnerable. But the truth of the matter is that you can't meet their own criteria without drastically cutting Medicare, or having an impact on Medicaid, or affecting our defense spending."
The math, Obama said, "doesn't add up."
Obama said he remains "open to making modest adjustments to programs like Medicare to protect them for future generations."
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Obama must do more. "We are hoping for a new seriousness on the part of the president with regard to the single biggest issue confronting the country," which is the debt and deficit, McConnell said.
White House aides say Obama detailed lots of proposed spending cuts in his 2013 budget proposal, which Congress rejected. Among other things, it called for reductions in health research, pollution control, education and military spending.
If Republicans want more detailed talks on spending cuts, Obama says, they must agree to new revenue.
No way, GOP leaders say.
The Republican Party's chief spokesman on tax and spending issues ? House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, the 2012 vice presidential nominee ? has acknowledged the political dangers of detailing plans to cut federal spending. He left out specific plans for slowing Social Security's growth, he told a 2011 audience, because "we thought that if we put one out there, it would just be too tempting for the Democrats to attack."
A November Associated Press-GfK poll about ways to combat deficit spending found substantially more support for reducing spending than for raising taxes. When examined individually, however, proposed cuts drew scant enthusiasm.
More adults opposed military spending cuts than supported them. Nearly half of Americans opposed raising the Medicare eligibility age or slowing its cost-of-living adjustments. Far fewer favored those ideas.
The pro-Democratic group Third Way says Americans are ready to swallow tough decisions about Medicare and Social Security, if politicians present them in a serious, bipartisan way.
Third Way co-founder Jim Kessler says focus groups prove that Americans don't like the idea of reduced benefits, "but they know something has to be done."
"Voters will forgive a bipartisan solution" to the entitlement programs' long-term funding problems, Kessler said.
"It's like going to the dentist," he said. No one enjoys it, "but you know it's the right thing to do."
